Coming back to me

I had a hard time, the first half of 2025. Life took over. That meant there was no energy left for the things that make me happy: painting and meeting with friends. I thought it would be done by June, but it wasn’t. By August I got my life back, but I still wasn’t able to create like before, and I started to question my life’s purpose: who am I when I’m not painting, and why am I even here when I’m not making others happy with my art?

I started to fear it was never going to come back. But it did. The relief is indescribable: I’m me again. Ideas flow, I’m in my studio experimenting, and art school feels wonderful. It feels like I not only get my life back, but also my future. I have big dreams and some nights I can’t sleep because my heart is overflowing with inspiration.

I always tell myself I’m not a spiritual person. My early life taught me that there’s no deity protecting me from harm, and I feel too insignificant to believe that the universe would support me in any way. But… Somehow, some way, opportunities have been coming my way the moment I started to create again. As if the simple act of being me (my True Me), is sending a message to the world: ‘Remember Nathalie Duflos? Let’s ask her to paint a portrait. / This painting would be a perfect Christmas gift. / Maybe she wants to paint my mum? / I want her to speak at my event.’ There’s so much goodness coming my way, it doesn’t feel like a coincidence.

One of those opportunities is an event by my dear friend Ilse Hendrickx from Kadelink. She has invited four women that inspire others by the way they live their truth in what they do. Every one of them has created a unique way of fulfilling their purpose in life, and on December 14th, they share their story.

Well, you guessed it: I’m one of those four women, and I’m so excited!
